Newsletter to parents
Sankey Valley St. James’ CE VA Primary School Newsletter
6th January 2012
On behalf of all the staff and Governors I would like to wish you a very Happy New Year.
I would like to share an excerpt from the Warrington Guardian which was printed over the holiday which referred to our school:
‘PRIMARY school children continue to perform above the national average for Sats in Warrington but standards have dropped from last year. The performance tables released by the Department for Education show that 77 per cent of 11-year-olds got a level four or higher in English and maths during the 2011 tests. That was down from 80 per cent last year but above the national average of 74 per cent. And 87 per cent of youngsters in Warrington are making the expected progress in English, while 85 per cent managed the same in maths, again topping the national benchmark. Pinaki Ghoshal, assistant director of children and young people’s services at Warrington Borough Council, said: “We are pleased to confirm that the outcomes for local learners at the end of key stage two remain above the national average once again. “We are extremely proud and pleased with the achievement of Warrington pupils.”
Top performers in the area were St Elphin’s CE Primary School in Fairfield and Sankey Valley St James CE Primary School in Great Sankey.
All pupils at both schools achieved level four or above in English and maths.’
