Welcome to Sankey Valley St. James’ CE VA Primary School
Please take a few minutes to read some of the comments from our most recent Ofsted and SIAS (Church Inspection) reports.
These inspections were held in March and April 2011.
- Learning opportunities are significantly enhanced by a range of outstanding partnerships.
- Parents and carers are very happy with the school and what it offers their children. One parent said, ‘the headteacher and staff are the best we have experienced’.
- The behaviour of children is outstanding.
- Pupils get on exceptionally well with one another and are supportive of others.
- Pupils say they enjoy coming to school.
- Pupils contribute to the good progress that they make in lessons by displaying positive, enthusiastic attitudes to work.
- All groups of pupils achieve well from their generally below average starting points. Significantly good progress is made in Mathematics from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 2.
- In the school’s safe, ‘family’ environment, pupils develop their personal and social skills well. They are invariably sensitive and supportive towards each other.
- Pupils’ business enterprise activities and their good social development ensure that they are well prepared for the next stages of education, and eventually for working life.
- The curriculum and excellent range of additional activities make an effective contribution to pupils’ learning.
- The school recognises the need to raise aspirations and has forged links with the local Collegiate and university to inspire pupils about their future career.
- There is a happy, purposeful atmosphere in the attractive learning areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage. Children enjoy being in school and are well motivated to learn. - Deep, caring relationships at all levels of the school family and extended community are a significant feature of Sankey Valley St. James.
- The headteacher, deputy, staff and governors have successfully created a secure and loving family environment within which the children feel valued and special.
- All members of staff provide excellent role models for both parents and children.
- A parent commented, ‘The teachers are like a family. They’re always there for you’.
- Outstanding networks are in place making an excellent contribution to the school’s care and guidance programme.
- Excellent displays throughout the school continually reaffirm its distinctive Christian ethos.
- Children ask questions confidently and take part in challenging discussions.
- Challenging and reflective learning activities include a wide range of creative outcomes and the very effective use of Philosophy for Children.
- Parents speak very positively of the school. Comments included, ‘All the staff are really welcoming, they’ll go the extra mile for you and your children’ and, ‘I wish every school was like this one’.
- Community cohesion is excellent.
