Nursery Curriculum                          Back to curriculum

Welcome to the Nursery!

In the Nursery children learn through positive social interactions with others and by fun independent choice activities. Our aim is to create a positive, happy, stimulating environment in which the children will feel safe and secure to learn in.

All of our planning is done around themed topics to make all of our activities exciting, and relevant to the children. These topics are planned and chosen around the individual interests and needs of the children to motivate the children to become independent, motivated learners. This also allows us to pitch our teaching at the appropriate level for each child and the children can access all areas of the curriculum in ways that are relevant and meaningful to them.

Its Winter Time !

The weather has started turning cold, there is ice and frost on the ground, so we decided to investigate WINTER and THE ARCTIC .

Here is a list of some of the things we plan to do over the next few weeks......

Make a winter mind map........

Go on a winter walk........

Write cold, wintry words using lots of different media... including frost !

Read Polar Bear, Polar Bear........

Use positional language to navigate a penguin or polar bear across the snow....

Counting winter animals......

Make snow globes......

Investigate clay, brusho and marbling...

Photo copy winter branches.....

Investigate electronic keyboard.... make icy, tinkly, wintry music and record the sounds with marks.......

We are going to be very busy !!!

We have investigated different media, to try and mix and change the way it looks.

Adding pasta, rice, chick peas and corn to paint changed the way it looked and felt. When

we added a colour, blue, that changed the way it looked. We could think of lots of different words to describe how it felt on our fingers.

We have stretched white sparkly dough, found a number path through the frost and made patterns in white glitter............ I can't wait to see what we do next !!!!!!!!
