Welcome to Class 1H. |

We have learnt a lot about Florence Nightingale. She was a famous nurse from a long time ago who we still remember today. She went to a place called the Crimea to help the soldiers who had been injured in the war. She cleaned up the hospitals and made them a nicer place to be. We looked at pintings and photographs of Florence Nightingale and then painted our own portraits of her. |
We have also been finding out about a pace Barnaby Bear visited called South Africa. We made our role play area into an airport so that we could travel there, and then into a jeep safari so that we could travel around the country and find out about all the animals. This is a picture of some of the animals we saw on our jeep safari. We also collected words along the way and here are some of the new words we learnt. |
When we were in South Africa, we looked at the types of patterns that were on the clothes and houses and pots. We drew our own patterns and then cut out shapes to make a printing block. Next, we used our printing block to print these pictures in the same colours that we saw in South African patterns. |
We have also been having fun baking American cookies. We had to work very hard to mix the ingredients together and to roll out the cookie dough. After that, we had to cut out the cookies and send them to the oven to bake. But the best bit was when we decorated our cookies with icing and sweets. They looked great and tasted even better. |
